Introduction

Rev. John Thomas College of Education for Women, Meignanapuram Thoothukudi District, South India, was established in the year 1985 and is being administrated by the then Tirunelveli Diocesan Trust Association of the church of South India and after the bifurcation of the Diocese it is now managed by the CSI Thoothukudi-Nazareth Diocese.

We expect your involvement i an illustrious Christian Missionary from Wales, England in the year 1838. He came to Meignanapuram at the age of 31 and rendered his service for 33 years in our Lord's vineyard in and around the hamlet and built the famous St. Paul's Church at Meignanapuram.

This college was affiliated to the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University at Tiruneelveli since 1991 from 2008 onwards it is affiliated to Tamilnadu Teachers Education University at Chennai the college has been granted recognition by the National Council for Teacher Education.

Rev John Thomas college of education for women, Megnana puram, Tuticorin District, South India is named after Rev John Thomas an illustrious christen Missionary from England. He was born on 10th November 1807 in wales. At the age of twenty John Thomas accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and sacrificed his life for the cause of evangelism and decided to become a missionary to India in 1837.

On 4th October 1838 John Thomas married Mary who came from England at the Vepery Church, Madras Marys love and Prayer made John Thomas a great warrior of Gospel. He was called as the Apostle of South Tirunelveli.

During their period Meganapuram was full of Palmyra trees, thorny bushes and castor plants. Mrs. Mary Thomas took efforts to remove the thorny bushes and made it as an oasis. There they built the beautiful bungalow which is the living monument of our college. They were the pioneers of Girls education in South Tamilnadu.

As a missionary he loved the people of Megnanapuram and wanted to uplift the downtrodden and the needy. So he and his wife decided to construct schools for the children. In 1842 Elliot Tuxford Girls Schools was established. In 1844, he started a boarding school for boys. So many children are benefitted by these schools and they are flying over the world an different colors.

Rev John Thomas had a good working knowledge of architecture and a remarkable taste in designing the town planning. He made the village streets straight and broad and also planted coconut trees on both sides. Rev John Thomas designed and built the magnificent St, Pauls church in 1847, which is steeple and 192 ft high our college is a blessed one and situated at the backdrop of this church.

Rev John Thomas was a very able talented and remarkable leader, who labored for 33 Years in our Lords vineyard in and around the hamlet Megnanapuram. He died on 28 March 1870 at the age of 63 and burned at the back corner side of the of the3 church for resurrection.
